Advantages of Low Speed Juicers

by Jack

As many of us look for healthier ways to enjoy food, juicing has become the latest trend, after all people have been juicing for quite some time. Anything can be juiced nowadays and there are a variety of ways to do it. Some use blenders, others prefer appliances made especially for juicing. You can choose the more popular quick juicing method which uses centrifuge based appliances or the less understood but gaining popularity- way of slow juicing which uses the method of mastication.

centrifugal juicerThe mechanics of fast juicing versus slow juicing are very different. With a centrifugal juicer the fruits or vegetables are ripped apart with the spinning blades. The juice is then extracted from the pulp by spinning it at high speed producing a liquid that has been stripped of the pulp and fiber. With a masticating juicer the juice is squeezed, pressed and then separated. With these slow speed juicers more juice is produced and there is less introduction of air when compared to high speed centrifugal juicers.

A great benefit to this is you can use less fruits and vegetables to make your desired volume of juicer. The low speed juicer can extract more juice from your produce thus saving you money.

Juicing for dietary reasons or as a way to make a healthy, tasty beverageĀ  is a great way to get your daily dose of fruit and vegetable intake. Juicing can be done with almost any fruit or vegetable. Spice it up by adding your vitamins or protein powder. It is also a great way to get kids to drink what they would otherwise avoid eating. You can also use it as an opportunity to taste some of the other vegetable items you might not otherwise look forward to eating. Typical centrifugal juicing is rather quick and loud. Slow juicing (also known as masticating juicing) is becoming more popular as they are much quieter and produce a better quality juice.

slow juicerAs mentioned fast juicing does separate the juice from the pulp but this removes what is widely understood to be the most important part of the fruit, fiber. The dietary benefits of slow juicing are endless and although consuming whole fruit cannot be beaten, slow juicing is a close second. Many of the critics of juicing say you lose out on the most important part of veggies and fruits which is the fiber. With slow juicing that never has to be the case again. One of the benefits of juicing in general is cleansing your body. Increasing your fiber intakeĀ  is a great way to rid your body of toxins and revitalize yourself for better health.

Among the many great reasons to juice, there are several benefits to using a slow juicer, one is the lower noise level. There is little doubt that you experience less noise with slow juicing. We all know too well the loud sounds of the blender or the more rapid juicers. You also have a better chance at completely and thoroughly liquefying tough vegetables like kale, wheatgrass and almonds. A few other benefits to keep in mind are:

Fiber Retention-
This is lost when is you use the fast juicing method. Fiber helps the digestive system operate as it was intended. More fiber is retained in your juice with the slow juicer.

Storing Your Drink-
With the typical fast juicers, you have to consume the juice immediately in order to get the full dietary benefit of the fruit or vegetable. With slow juicing the juice is said to last for up to 72 hours while still retaining its nutrients. That does not happen with fast juicing. The juice begins to lose its nutrients as soon as the juice is exposed to the air and fast juicing introduces a lot of air into the juicer. It has to be consumed immediately to achieve the benefits the juice has to offer.

More juice Less Foam-
Who wants to juice and consume mostly foam? The entire point is to get the juice out of the product. With slow juicing you achieve that. You can maximize the amount of juice you obtain with this method. All parts of the fruit can be consumed with a slow juicer including the seeds which is known to have much of the dietary benefit. Fast juicing some fruits or vegetables can produce so much foam it will fill more than half your glass.

Less Wasted Produce
Slow juicing also helps you save money because you get a much higher yield of juice from your produce. If you do a comparison test using the same amount of fruits or vegetables in a slow juicer and centrifugal juicer side by side you will see the dramatic difference. It’s definitely worth the extra time it takes to juice with a slow juicer.

The long lasting benefits and variety of taste combinations in juicing makes it a great way to get healthier. Use whatever type of juicer you happen to have to improve your health but you will get the most benefit if you use a slow juicer.
